The White House is denying any suggestion that it had a hand in helping music stars Jay-Z and Beyoncé plan their trip to Cuba last week. Press Secretary Jay Carney shot down the suggestion during a briefing Thursday.
Carney said, "The White House, from the president on down, had nothing to do with anybody's... travel to Cuba. That is something that Treasury handles."
Even after the Treasury Department issued a statement saying it had okayed the trip, reports picked up again Thursday when Jay-Z released the song "Open Letter." The rapper drops President Obama's name and brags about getting White House clearance to travel to Cuba in the track. It's those lyrics that have led some to believe Jay-Z may have had some presidential pull in getting to the communist island.
