(WENN) - An Alabama-based singer/songwriter is suing Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City's Adam Young over allegations of copyright infringement.
Allyson Nichole Burnett has filed documents in California claiming the pop pair's "Good Time" hit copies the "unique vocal motif" and hook of her 2010 tune "Ah, It's a Love Song," which featured on her album The Takeover.
In her lawsuit, Burnett states that "many consumers may incorrectly assume that Burnett copied her own original motif from the infringing songwriters due to the widespread popularity and publication of 'Good Time.'"
And she maintains her reputation as an independent artist will be "significantly damaged by such incorrect assumptions".
Burnett also claims she has suffered "emotional and psychological damage" from fans asking why she copied the Jepsen-Owl City hit.
She is also suing Universal Music Group, Songs Music Publishing and Schoolboy Records, according to Billboard.com.
